Move and Center Mac Windows with the Keyboard

Unlocked or active trial

Move a Mac window to a screen tick or center it without dragging its title bar. Cursor Crane keeps Adjust Mode active so you can make several small layout corrections in succession.

Steps

  1. Focus the window you want to move, then run command.enterAdjustMode.
  2. Press a number to move to a horizontal screen tick, or hold Shift with a number to move vertically. Direction keys move to the previous or next tick.
  3. Press ` to center horizontally, or Shift + ` to center vertically.
  4. Continue adjusting, then press Esc when finished.

Hold Control and press a direction key to move the window in small steps, including beyond the screen bounds. This lets you temporarily move part of a window offscreen. Keep the Nine-Square Grid edge and corner keys released while doing this; holding them resizes the window instead.

What to check

Focus the window and move the pointer away from supported splitters or sliders before entering: a control under the pointer takes priority over the window. Press Esc when finished.
